Lehigh man found guilty in drug trafficking case
Demetrius Antonio Nugent
A Lehigh Acres man was convicted of drug trafficking this week in a Lee County court.
On May 30, a jury found Demetrius Antonio Nugent, 32, of 625 Weston Road, guilty of trafficking in oxycodone 14 grams or more, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
Samantha Syoen, of the State Attorney’s Office, said the verdict came in at about 9 p.m.
In May 2016, Nugent was driving a vehicle that Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies felt was suspicious. During a traffic stop, a K-9 deputy alerted to the vehicle, according to officials.
Deputies discovered 120 oxycodone pills, over $1,300 in cash and 15 alprazolam pills.
Syoen reported that Nugent’s sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
He faces up to 35 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the trafficking count.
Assistant State Attorneys Christine Cummins and Stephen Dommerich prosecuted the case.
