Center to offer youth skin checks

By Staff | Jun 7, 2017

Florida Skin Center’s Lehigh office will host its annual Children’s Day on June 10.

For the past seven years, Dr. Anais Aurora Badia and the office’s providers have served almost 1,000 children through the annual event. On Children’s Day, the office provides ages 17 and under with checkups and medication to help with their skin health needs, such as acne, eczema, warts and more.

Taking place from 8 to 11 a.m., the event is first-come first-served and the skin exams are free.

The office also partners up with drug representatives to provide sample medications.

“When the economic climate dropped, Dr. Badia wanted to give back and add value to the community, so she created the annual Children’s Day event,” Jesmarie Roldan, event coordinator for the Florida Skin Center, said. “In honor of children’s month, she picked the month of June to hold the event.”

The event will feature entertainment like Lucesita the clown and the office’s mascot, “Sunny.” There will be a bounce house, a bicycle and a toy giveaway, crafts, tattoos, snacks and other activities.

According to Roldan, it is important to educate the public about skin protection, especially during the hot summer days in Florida. Going in for regular checkups is also essential to maintain healthy skin.

She said events like Children’s Day encourage people to keep their skin protected.

“Dr. Badia is passionate about promoting and educating healthy skin habits at an early age,” Roldan said. “One of the goals at the Children’s Day event is to educate children and parents about the importance of using and reapplying sunscreen daily to prevent future skin damage.”

The events also save parents money on checkups and medication. She pointed out that the events give parents the opportunity to have a skin checkup for their child without the worry of an expensive bill.

“We know how expensive health care is, so an event like this can help parents save an average of $300-plus between medical visits and medication,” Roldan said.
