Man accused in Fort Myers shooting

At approximately 7:07 p.m. June 4, the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a shooting at 2250 Royal Palm Ave.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim’s mother who stated that her 17-year-old son had been shot and was on his way to the hospital with some friends.

Officers were dispatched to Lee Memorial Hospital, where they met with the victim.

The victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Fort Myers police canvased the area and obtained information from witnesses as to what kind of vehicle was used in the shooting.

While speaking with investigators at the hospital, the victim stated that he knew the perpetrator only by his street name.

Investigators, working with the Gang Suppression Unit, identified Jhony Anderson Mesidor, 19, of 802 Wellington Ave., Lehigh Acres, as the possible suspect.

The victim positively identified Melidor as the shooter and wished to press charges.

On June 5, Mesidor was located in Lehigh Acres and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.

He is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, discharging a firearm in public and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
