School board seeks community members for advisory committees
The School Board of Lee County is soliciting qualified members of the community to serve on a handful of board advisory committees.
The purpose of the committees is to provide input, advice and support to the school board on topics identified by the board as specific to each committee.
The following committees are seeking members:
– Continuous Systemic Improvement Advisory Committee: Systematically reviews components of the district’s strategic plan to provide input on the content and implementation of the plan; the committee shall determine which component of the plan to review after receiving a recommendation from the board member liaison and committee chair.
– Construction Advisory Committee: Provides input, advice and support to the five-year capital plan; the committee shall also review proposed new construction and renovation projects and review plans for compliance with safety-to-life issues.
– Curriculum Advisory Committee: Provides input, advice and support on curriculum content, materials and assessment instruments, school improvement process and district-wide technology issues, and promotes the integration of technology into the home and school learning environments.
– Finance Advisory Committee: Provides input, advice and support in the preparation of the operating and capital budget for the district.
– Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee: Monitors the district’s maintenance of a unitary school system and adherence to board policies concerning equity and diversity, as well as reviews and provides input concerning revisions to the student assignment plan and any proposal to acquire a school site, construct or abandon a school facility.
Online applications must be received by 4 p.m. July 24 for consideration for the September appointments to the advisory committees, which are tentatively set to start after Sept. 5.
Individuals applying for membership on a committee must provide information to the board concerning any business they are doing with the board, or if they have a contractual or an employment relationship with any entity doing business with the board, in advance of being appointed to a committee; this does not include being employed by the district.
