A Lehigh Acres man is accused of firing a weapon during a recent road rage incident.

Rocco Nicholas Ruzzo, 26, of 813 Meadow Road, was arrested and charged today with discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and firing a missile into a vehicle, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported.

He has since been released from the Lee County Jail on $30,000 bond.

At about 5:17 p.m. Aug. 14, the LCSO responded to a call about shots fired at state Road 82 and Gregory Avenue South, according to officials. East District investigators determined that the road rage incident escalated when Ruzzo fired shots from a white Nissan van, hitting a silver Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Toyota retrieved a firearm from his center console and returned fire.

Officials reported that there were no injuries.

Investigators deemed that Ruzzo initiated the incident, and he was taken into custody.

“(It) was an isolated occurrence,” Gary Levine, spokesman for the LCSO, said in prepared statement released today. “There is no danger to the community.”

Ruzzo has a court appearance set for Sept. 19.
