Driver dies from injuries after failing to stop, crashing
A Lehigh Acres man died Tuesday after he ran a stop sign and his vehicle was T-boned.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the unidentified 53-year-old was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital following the crash at Joel Boulevard and East 10th Street. He was later pronounced dead.
At about 7:30 p.m., the man was driving a Nissan Altima westbound on 10th Street when he failed to stop for the stop sign at Joel, according to officials. He drove directly into the path of a Chevrolet 2500 headed northbound on Joel in the outside lane. The truck collided into the driver’s side of the Nissan.
The driver of the Chevy, Orlando Henry Diaz Puga, 33, of Alva, was not hurt.
The FHP reported that it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
