Animal Services adoptions discounted

Lee County Domestic Animal Services is offering the chance to adopt a dog 5 months or older or a cat or kitten of any age for just $30 throughout September.

Package included with the adoption is valued at over $500.

General Woman’s Club speakers

Gulf Coast Writers Association to meet

The Gulf Coast Writers Association will meet on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Zion Lutheran Church, at 7401 Winkler Road, Fort Myers.

Guest speaker Patricia Sheehy, a three-time award winner of the Writer’s Digest contest, will share techniques for crafting contest-worthy essays and articles.

LCSO hosts seminar

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will host a series of educational seminars at the United Healthcare Medicare Store, at 6900 Daniels Parkway, Unit 23-C, Fort Myers.

The dates and topics are:

– Sept. 26: Cell Dogs – Meet dogs and learn about training

Each session will begin at 10 a.m. and last about an hour.

Local dance-a-thon to benefit ACT

A dance-a-thon will be held on Oct. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon, at 2158 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.

Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winner in two categories: most dollars raised and most dances completed.

First place will receive a concert package of 10 tickets to see William Michael Morgan on Oct. 27, along with a table for 10 and two meet-and-greet passes.

Second place will receive a four-pack of tickets to see Morgan.

There is a $5 cover charge for admission; 12 and under are free.

Attendees are asked to wear purple in support of the cause.

Lehigh Concert Band to present performance

The Lehigh Concert Band will perform on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. First Baptist Church of Lehigh Acres, at 200 Lee Blvd.

It will be a salute to U.S. veterans with the “Armed Forces Salute,” “Hymn of Freedom,” “Dam Busters March,” “The Blue and the Gray,” “America” from “West Side Story” and more.

The concert is free, with donations accepted.

The band is always accepting new musicians who play at a senior high school level, college level or above. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

Pool offering classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

Plant, tree sale

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

The selection includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee, with a maximum of $5.
