In the wake of Hurricane Irma countless families were left without power, water and food.

Recognizing the community’s need, the staff of Veterans Park Academy for the Arts sprang into action reaching out to community members, business partners, non-profits and fellow schools to host a Community Support Event and Staff Luncheon at the school.

More than 2,000 people participated in the Sept. 15 event. Teachers, community members and businesses from across the county donated food, cleaning products, diapers, ice, water, charcoal, pet food and other supplies to help people hit hard by Irma.

During the event, families and volunteers were served up grilled hotdogs, fresh fruit, homemade cookies and ice water.

In addition to staff, who made personal donations, there were several other sponsors.’
