East Lee County High head football coach retires

By Staff | Dec 13, 2017

The head football coach at East Lee County High School is retiring from his position.

The School Distinct of Lee County announced on Dec. 12 that Dave Smith made a decision to enter a new phase of his career and retire from being the head football coach at East Lee County High.

Smith met with the principal, as well as the athletic director to inform them of his decision.

Smith has dedicated his career to coaching high school football, and he has mentored many student athletes in Southwest Florida. He has kept East Lee’s football program in good standing and has guided it in the right direction.

“We are thankful for Coach Smith’s time and commitment to excellence. We sincerely wish Dave and his family well in this new chapter of his career,” district officials said in a prepared statement.

A statewide search for the successor of the football program will begin immediately.

East Lee County High School is at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave.
