Giving tree at LCDAS

Lee County Domestic Animal Services will celebrate the “25 Strays of Christmas” with a gift giving tree to benefit the Animal Care Trust Fund.

The gift giving tree in the adoption lobby is decorated with ornaments featuring adoptable pets and their Christmas wish list.

Visitors may pick one up and return it to Animal Services by Dec. 21 to help make the animals’ holiday a little brighter.

Develop Lee to meet

Develop Lehigh and others will host a Develop Lee Marketing Meeting on Dec. 14 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at the Lee County Economic Development Office, at 2201 Second St., Fort Myers.

The Commercial Revitalization Task Force was formed by the Lee County Economic Development Office and the Horizon Council to provide a forum to discuss ways to revitalize areas that have lagged the ongoing economic recovery.

Club to host meeting

The General Woman’s Club of Lehigh Acres will meet Dec. 15 at noon in Sweatlock Hall at the Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 E. Leeland Heights Blvd.

It will be the holiday luncheon, with food prepared by the members. The pre-schoolers from the The Learning Village will present a program of Christmas music and Mrs. Santa will be there.

This will be the last chance for members to bring in their donations of food items for the needy.

SWFL Concert Band to present concert

The Southwest Florida Concert Band will perform Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. First Baptist Church of Lehigh Acres, at 200 Lee Blvd.

The band will collect donations for of non-perishable food items for Lehigh Community Services.

The concert is free; donations will be accepted.

Future concert dates include:

– Jan. 28

– Feb. 18

– March 18

– April 15

The band is always accepting new musicians who play at a senior high school level, college level or above. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Food Pantry coming

Community Cooperative will host its Mobile Food Pantry on Dec. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Veterans Community Park, at 55 Homestead Road S.

County band to perform

The Lee County Community Band will present a Christmas concert on Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd.

The concert is free; donations will be accepted.

Comprised of professional and amateur musicians from three counties, the band rehearses Thursdays in Fort Myers.

Annual Old Fashioned Family Fun planned

The Lee County 4-H will host its fourth annual Old Fashioned Family Fun on Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Veterans Park, at 55 Homestead Road S.

Admission is free.

There will be a petting zoo, plus activities for families to participate in like racing, throwing, running and jumping.

Parents are encouraged to participate with their child.

Participants can turn in filled out “passports” to win prizes donated by area sponsors.

Annual Writing Contest taking submissions

The Gulf Coast Writers Association is taking submissions for its Annual Writing Contest.

The three top entries in each category will receive a cash reward.

The word count for fiction, nonfiction, and children’s is 1,500 words maximum. For poetry, there is a maximum of 40 lines.

Entry is open to the public.

Submission deadline is Jan. 31.

Pool offering classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

Plant, tree sale set

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

It includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee, with a maximum of $5.
