Angel Christmas Tree application appointments under way

By Staff | Sep 26, 2018

Appointments are now being held through Tuesday, Oct. 30, for Salvation Army Lehigh Outreach Social Services Angel Christmas Tree applications.

Major Brenda Lane, administrator for Salvation Army Lehigh Outreach Social Services said Tuesday afternoon that they are in the process of giving appointments, which were to begin Monday.

“We will be serving children 12 and under. Infant up to 12 years old,” she said. “They apply to receive assistance from us.”

Those who make an appointment will have to bring specific documentation with them. That includes proof of all income in the household; picture ID and Social Security card for all adults in the household; Social Security card and birth certificate for children 12 and younger; copy of lease or mortgage; award letter if they receive food stamps; award letter of child support or SSI and a piece of mail that comes to their address.

Appointments will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon. and from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The application also includes a section where the parent provides a wish list for their child, which may include a bike or some particular game, as well as a need, such as shoes, pants or shirts.

“We supplement other items with that,” Lane said.

Those who wish to make a difference and adopt an angel can call Gail Sleeman at (239) 278-1551.

“They can adopt an angel and fill the wishes and needs of that child and that family. They can adopt several if they like,” Lane said.

She said they have corporations that are taking up to 50 angels at a time.

Individuals can also drop off donated new, unwrapped toys at the Salvation Army Lehigh Outreach Social Services office at 25 Homestead Road, Unit 42A.

The Salvation Army has been helping families around Christmas time for close to 70 years. Over the years they have shifted to the Angel Tree format. Last year, Salvation Army provided 25,717 gifts for 6,700 children in Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties for Christmas.
