By Staff | Sep 26, 2018

The Lehigh Acres Fire Department and Veterans Park Center are joining forces, putting together a free, family-friendly Lehigh Acres Fire Prevention Day & Fall Festival next month with tons of activities.

Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District Administrative Assistant Janis Williams said with October being National Fire Prevention Month fire departments all over the United States pick a day to pay tribute to fire prevention. With that said, The Lehigh Acres Fire Department chose to hold its event on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Lehigh Acres Fire Prevention Day & Fall Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Williams said the day usually covers everything from cooking to fire safety in the house, as well as home escape drills. She said the event is geared towards providing basic fire safety tips as a way to give back to the community while raising awareness.

This year, the Lehigh Acres Fire Prevention Day is piggy backing with the Veteran’s Park Center’s Fall Festival. Williams said the majority of the Fall Festival events will be held inside the Rec Center at 55 Homestead Road S.

“The majority of our stuff will be outside,” she said, also at the same address.

The anticipated exhibits include an aerial, brush truck and ambulance on display; extrication demonstrations; Florida Forest Service; bunker gear dressing station; public education information; blood pressure checks; glucose testing; Marshal from Paw Patrol; fire hose demonstration; martial arts demonstration; archery demonstration; Big Red Bus/One Blood; DUI simulators and concussion goggles.

There will also be a costume contest for children up to 13 years old at 1 p.m.

Williams said the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will land a helicopter on the grounds during the event, and Pink Heals will have its truck their as well.

There will also be free hot dogs, popcorn and water for the community.

“We have 1,000 to give away, so come and eat some hot dogs, Ball Park franks,” she said.

In the past Williams said they have held their Fire Prevention Day with the organization, Make A Difference Day, but since they disbanded nationally at the beginning of the year, they decided to hold it with Veteran’s Park Recreation Center.

“Lee County Parks & Recreation was always a part of Make A Difference Day. We both agreed that it would be a nice thing to have it together. Hopefully we will make it a yearly event,” she said. “We enjoy working with them.”
