Political hemlock
To the editor:
We expect: No, we demand, that our judges remain neutral when deliberating their decisions. Yet, this country was exposed to the art of political poison by the actions of the Democratic Senators on the Judiciary committee. These Democrats declared even before the hearing that they were not going to vote for Judge Kavanaugh. That in itself seems a bit of a taint upon the process. When all else failed these Democrats produced a hopeful “Hail Mary” accusation of sexual misconduct on Judge Kavanaugh’s part 36 years ago. The actual “sexual misconduct” was never described. It was, however, not a rape. A grope? Perhaps. A brush? Maybe? Did it ever happen? Now there is the rub. There was nothing produced as credible evidence that this ever took place. The entire details of these political theatrics are well known. So, let’s leave them to their historical grave.
The point is that the time-honored selection and confirmation process for filling a vacancy on the Supreme Court has been disgraced.
History tells us that Socrates was given a death sentence for asking philosophical questions. He ingested the hemlock causing a progressive paralysis resulting in his death. The Democratic Party has given itself a large serving of political hemlock. Only time will tell when, or if, the political paralysis is fatal.
There is no antidote for hemlock poisoning. The antidote for political hemlock is the voting booth.
