East County Regional Library looks into 2019
With December here, the staff at East County Regional Library is already looking ahead to 2019 to improve their services for the older population, as well as the preschool aged children.
Regional Branch Manager Samantha Wallace said their two program librarians, inhouse, are coming up with some outreach programs for people living in assisted living facilities.
“Every month we are brainstorming what can we do to offer more things to our community. What about the people who cannot make it to the library? What can we take to their location,” Wallace said. “We want to let them know they are not forgotten. People do care and it doesn’t have to be a family member that comes and spends time with you. There are other people that really truly care about you and want you to feel appreciated.”
Head of Youth Services Angela Hall said the great thing about the library system nowadays is they are “a library without walls.”
“People think the services a library offers are limited to the space and facility,” she said. “We can bring those services and the resources right to them where they are.”
That also goes for the large daycares located in the community. Many of the youngsters do not have the opportunity to visit the library. Hall said they want to take more storytime to them, as well as more outreach opportunities.
