Cape Bike Night misses the mark
To the editor:
Cape Coral City leaders missed the mark with Bike Night this last Saturday. Besides being about one third the size as usual, it lacked the most important focus, motorcycles. Bikers go to rallies to see all of the motorcycles, paint jobs, chrome, and custom work, and all of the bikes were parked off site mixed in with cars in dark parking lots. Other than the vendor motorcycle displays, there was not a motorcycle to be seen. Bike night was just a closed street with a few of the same vendors as the last 10 years. The main stage was a block off of 47th down a dark street and it even took me a while to locate a trash can to put my empty soda bottle in. The food at Bike Night is awful! It is just junk food that you would find at a state or county fair. It seems to me that 47 Terrace is no longer a good place to have a bike night after the recent “street scape.”
So, here are my suggestions: Move Bike Night over on Cape Coral Parkway. Close Cape Coral Parkway just like they do for the art fair. Then there would be enough room for vendors, bikes, and walkers. Get some new vendors! Vendors are very important support for the rally and I like seeing them, but there needs to be some new ones, too. Then, invite local restaurants to sell food there. At least they would “try” to serve their best menu items in the hope of getting people to come to their restaurants.
