National Day of Prayer to be held at Christ United Methodist Church
The Lehigh Acres Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a National Day of Prayer at the Christ United Methodist Church Thursday, May 2, and the community is invited to attend.
Kiwanis Club member Sharon Hill said they started sponsoring a prayer breakfast in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer last year.
“This year we are going to be having the breakfast on the same day as the National Day of Prayer,” she said. “The theme, Love One Another.”
A joint resolution of Congress created the National Day of Prayer in 1952, which was signed into law by President Harry Truman. On Thursday, May 5, 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed into law that the first Thursday of May be designated as the National Day of Prayer.
Hill said they have urged various religious leaders from the Lehigh community to come together and come to an agreement with the commands of God, to love one another.
“It’s about community and unity. We feel that it starts with the basics. It starts with prayer. If we can get various churches to come together and be in agreement, be like minded of what is necessary to bring forth effective change, that is going to show unity. It starts with prayer,” Hill said.
The doors open at 6:45 a.m. with a reception and light breakfast. Prayers will begin at 7:15 and finish by 8:30 a.m.
“The focus is really about coming together and praying,” Hill said.
Those who are attending the breakfast need to RSVP by calling 239-369-1433.
“They need to RSVP, so we can prepare adequately,” Hill said.
Christ United Methodist Church is located at 1430 Homestead Road, N.
