Football camps at North High coming

By Staff | Jun 19, 2019

Football players throughout Lee County will make North Fort Myers High School a very busy place the next two weekends.

Two North alums and NFL players, Tommy Bohanon and Tre Boston, will hold football camps and teach kids to train like a pro.

Tommy Bohanon, who last season played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and is currently a free agent, will lead things off. He will host his third annual Tommy Bohanon Youth Football Camp in partnership with the Tommy Bohanon Foundation on Saturday at North Fort Myers High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The kids will be trained by experienced or professional coaches from the area, as well as college athletes who come back to work with us,” said Katie Bohanon, who helps run the Tommy Bohanon Foundation.

The camp is free to all participants from first to eighth grade. Bohanon, as well as various certified football coaches, will direct campers in numerous football drills and hear about Bohanon’s journey to the NFL and what it takes to achieve their goals.

“The kids will learn about Tommy’s backstory about how he became a professional athlete by getting good grades in school because that’s what will project forward in your future because football doesn’t last for long,” Katie said. “If kids are great athletes but don’t get good grades, they may not get as many scholarship offers.”

A healthy lunch will be provided and after camp courtesy of Tropical Smoothie, and Bohanon will take pictures and sign autographs for all attendees.

More than 150 youths have already signed up, but the camp can take kids anytime until the clinic starts or they reach a maximum of 250.

Bohanon has been giving back to his hometown community in several ways. His foundation has provided sports equipment to NFMHS Athletics, awarded $10,000 in scholarships through the SWFL Community Foundation, and has been involved with several community outreach projects as well.

“I want to share my love, knowledge, and appreciation of football to kids in my hometown,” Bohanon said in a statement. “I wish there were opportunities like this when I was a kid.”

On June 29, Tre Boston, who last season played for the Arizona Cardinals and who also is a free agent, will hold his “Skills and Drills” camp at North High, put on through his Beyond Belief Foundation, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This camp is for anyone between the ages of 8 and 17, and will be coached by current and former NFL players.
