The mission of our American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 323 is to support and honor veterans, our militaries and families. We advocate for veterans, mentor youth, promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security for God and Country. There are many different ways of doing this, and some of them are just darned fun. We are “laboring” with our other family members for the forthcoming Labor Day weekend to keep reminding all veterans we recognize their humanity and to let them know we will always work to promote our mission in giving all veterans our continued support any way we are able.
For this Labor Day, our S.A.L. members are sponsoring their 10th annual clambake from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. To go along with those tasty shellfish, there will be a horseshoe tourney with cash prizes; later in the day is entertainment by the very talented Bouncer, who just happens to be the Commander of the S.A.L. this year. His voice is “Music to one’s ears.”
Sunday, Sept. 1, will usher in an Auxiliary breakfast where the menu will feature “cook to order” items and Monday the Auxiliary will barbecue ribs for $6 a plate. Of course, with ribs, baked beans & cole slaw are a must. We will have raffles and a 50/50 and if we can talk some of our awesome ladies into doing a bit of “labor,” for the day, a bake sale. And in conjunction with these activities, our Riders are sponsoring a pool shooting contest.
As always, you, the public is welcome to these events. We would happy to meet and greet everyone, so instead of wondering or worrying about the weather what to do, and what to cook, come join us. There’s always something going on at the American Legion at 1124 Ashlar Ave, in Lehigh Acres and holidays give us our best chance to really shine.
