First responders of Lehigh Acres came out last week to show their support to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lehigh Regional Medical Center. The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, Lee County Sherriff’s Office and S.H.I.E.L.D. of Southwest Florida took part in a small parade for the health care workers inside as a way to show unity.

“This is a way to bring the community together, and reminding all the people in the hospital like the nurses, doctors, and the line staff that we haven’t forgotten about them. That we appreciate them and that we are all in this together. Fighting this together,” said Lehigh Fire Control and Rescue District spokesperson Katie Heck.

The show of support was not just for hospital staff and first responders.

“Hopefully some of the patients were able to look out their windows and see our lights and just know that we are all thinking about them,” Heck said. “It was also a way to break up the monotony of everybody’s day of coming to work and just continuing to fight every day. It’s really kind of nice on both sides being able to wave and smile, with social distancing in mind, and be able to feel a little fellowship.”

According to Jacklyn Arsenault, in charge of business development at the hospital, Lehigh Regional Medical Center was one of the first hospitals in Southwest Florida to set up a testing tent for COVID-19 patients.

“Our staff has pulled together as medical professionals do and have been fighting this pandemic since it all began. We have the most qualified medical staff for this type of disaster. We provide exceptional care to our patients. Today, along with the local fire department, EMS and police, we took a few minutes to recognize our medical staff with an honors celebration. We are all in this together and we are staying strong,” Arsenault said.

Arsenault also credited the hospital’s leadership.

“Gary Bell, our CEO, has done an incredible job guiding the staff through this very difficult time. We continue to follow all the CDC guidelines and we will continue to provide the best possible care for all of our patients. We take great pride in what we do here at Lehigh Regional Medical Center,” Arsenault said.

Lehigh Regional Medical Center is at 1500 Lee Blvd, Lehigh Acres.
