Lehigh Regional Medical Center was excited to once again open its doors to patient visitors last Thursday. Hours for visitation will remain limited at this time to Monday through Sunday, between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon, and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

According to Jackie Arsenault, in charge of Business Development at the hospital, they will continue to follow all CDC guidelines including a mandatory temperature check when people come through the front doors.

“All guests must enter through the front and check in at the desk. Masks are required and we have masks if needed. We will have a list of who’s in the hospital and their designated visitors. The person visiting must be on that list to be allowed inside the hospital,” Arsenault.

Even with the limited visitation, Lehigh Regional will maintain strict guidelines.

“Throughout this pandemic, we have tried really hard to be as careful as possible and follow all CDC protocols. The safety of our patients and staff comes first. We are comforted to be able to do this at this time. Our goal is for our patients to feel safe and comfortable to see their family members,” Arsenault said.

The hospital has also brought back its volunteer positions, but is in need of additional people to fill these roles.

“We lost quite a few volunteers after the COVID shut-downs. Some found other volunteering positions or just retired,” said Annie Wenzler, President of Lehigh Regionals Volunteers.

Wenzler has volunteered at Lehigh Regional for close to five years. Prior to volunteering at the Lehigh hospital, she spent time at Golisano Hospital.

“Some of us are older people and we have a blast volunteering. It’s like a family here and the community is wonderful. Sometimes the families need someone to comfort them and we do it, and some people don’t have anyone and that’s sad. We volunteer and do it with pride and a smile on our face,” Wenzler said.

Right now volunteering position are available in the hospital’s gift shop, the ER; to distribute magazines and cross word puzzles and for patient visits.

“We mainly need volunteers for the afternoon hours of 12 to 4 p.m. Our volunteers also get a free lunch here are the hospital,” Wenzler said.

According to Wenzler, anyone can volunteer and the positions are open to all ages.
