Blended Cultures held is FLAVA of Lehigh Acres Saturday.

The ultimate food-tasting event went from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was held at 1201 Taylor Lane. Members of the community came out to enjoy the outdoor, family event which featured food vendors from all countries, live entertainment, a food contest, kid activities and free parking.

Throughout the afternoon, the public sampled cuisine from some of the top culinary experts in SWFL while they danced and listened to music, and hung out with friends and family members.

POW radio, a station on the internet, kept the crowd entertained in between a slew of great bands and performers.

George Torres, founder of Blended Cultures and Creator of The Flava of Lehigh Acres Food Festival, created the event as way to bring the community together, safely and celebrate the diverse and rich culture of Lehigh.

“I’m really happy that all the vendors went home happy and the community was pleased. Victory Church was extremely appreciative and looking forward to the next event. I feel like the community had accomplished something. Our vendors were great. My youngest vendors were between 8 and 10, and went home with $1,800. I’m impressed with how the community conducted themselves and it’s a win for Lehigh,” Torres said.

The event was also made possible by MGS Designz, the main sponsor of FLAVA of Lehigh Acres.

“It was an amazing event. I’m very pleased. We had such an incredible response from our vendors and the public. Everyone felt safe and thought it was a great event to bring their families,” Monica Garcia, owner of MGS Designz and Marketing Director for Blended Cultures said. “We donated all the marketing for the event. We created very unique ads for each vendor that they could not only use for this event, but also share on social media.”

According to Garcia, the event was a win-win for some vendors who entered the International Food Contest.

“Most our food vendors had a pretty good turnout. One young man who runs Jiji’s Lemonade stand sold over $500. Robo’s Grill from Miami sold more $300 of their sauce alone,” Garcia said. “The event also featured an International Food Contest, where the winner of the contest Harpo Charter Seafood took an extra $500. He got a perfect score from all the judges.”

Garcia said that many people have started to ask about the next event.

“George wants to do more events in Lehigh but not limited to just Lehigh. We have a great team were building. Raw Entertainment provided the performers for Flava. They really help groom young, local performers. So we are including these performers in our events. For Flava, they pretty much donated their time to make this event happen and support our local business, Garcia explained.

Jiji’s Lemonade stand was a great success. He has such an entrepreneurial spirit. Other businesses helped sponsor him to get him at the event and she created his logo and ads,” Garcia said.

El Rincón Boricua Restaurant is located onsite and they contributed towards the event, offered raffles and had a Suzuki Samurai car show.

According to Torres, the COVID-19 pandemic numbers will dictate future events.

“I will be keeping a close eye on where the country is going next as far as COVID. Definitely would like to do more events in Lehigh,” Torres said.
