Veterans Park Recreation Center summer camp registration underway
Veterans Park Recreation Center opened its summer camp registration at 7 a.m. Monday and spots may go fast.
The summer camp is just one of the various Lee County Parks & Recreation Summer Camps currently offering early sign-ups.
According to Recreation Center Supervisor Rebecca Flora, parents are encouraged to sign up early due to this year’s allotted spaces.
“We suggest that parents go ahead and get signed up for the weeks ahead of time, because camps do fill up. This year we have 60 slots for participants in our kindergarten through fifth summer camp and 18 kids maximum for the middle school camp, grades sixth to 8th. Each summer camp is a five-week program this year. We’ll have the current ratios due to COVID,” Flora said. “Activities will be done with social distancing in mind. There will be no field trips for this coming summer. Everything will stay on sight, but we have plenty of outdoor activities here for the kids including inside activities game room, arts and crafts.”
Summer camp will runs five weeks, from June 28 to July 30, and is offered on a weekly basis. The price for each week is $75 per participant. There also will be lunch provided for each child enrolled.
“The school district does provide food for the summer feeding program. They can bring a lunch as well and a snack. Parents can sign up in person, online or over phone. If you want to secure the entire five weeks, it’s best to pay as soon as possible,” Flora said. “While we don’t usually fill up right away, tuition for the weeks must be secured and paid at one time.”
All summer camps will following CDC guidelines. This means each camper will be at a ratio of under nine campers per one staff member. Also, they will maintain a 6-foot social distance. Campers are to remain on-site for the duration of each day.
Staff will clean and disinfect throughout the day and camp registration is ongoing as long as space is available.
According to the registration desk, participants who want to register for camp at one of the four large recreation centers, need to obtain a membership first. This applies to the centers at Wa-Ke Hatchee, Estero, North Fort Myers and Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres. Families also need to create a household account at www.webtrac.leegov.com if you want to register online.
All campers will receive a specially designed Lee County Parks & Recreation T-shirt. Camp sites will participate in countywide initiatives, such as service learning projects, fitness and wellness programs, and National Park and Recreation Month.
