Lehigh Regional pays tribute to LifeLink month
The staff at Lehigh Regional Medical Center held a small ceremony on April 12 in recognition of LifeLink Foundation’s Donate Life month.
Members of the hospital medical team and hospital personnel gathered outside to raise the flag to honor the individuals who have donated their organs and tissue to save the lives of others. The ceremony also coincides with National Donate Life Month, which is held throughout the month of April.
“Lehigh Regional Medical Center staff and personnel work closely with LifeLink and we wanted to do something special to recognize those who have donated organs and/or tissue and their recipients,” Jacklyn Asernault, director of Business Development/Marketing for Lehigh Regional Medical Center said.
According to LifeLink’s website, due to the lack of available organs, more than 107,000 people across the country are waiting for a lifesaving transplant, of those are 5,000 in the state of Florida.
During the month of April the public can learn more about donation through virtual education programs offered by LifeLink as well as registering through the state’s organ, eye and tissue donor registry.
“This is a great time to bring awareness to the donor programs and a chance to honor and recognize the generosity of donors who make saving lives through transplant possible,” said Ashley Moore, Manager, public affairs LifeLink Foundation Chair, Donate Life Florida. “A single donor can save eight lives through organ donation and 75 through enhanced tissue.”
Even through the pandemic, LifeLink has seen a record number of donors.
“In 2020 we hit a record number of donors — 295 organ donors. We really appreciate the support that we have through partnerships with local hospitals like Lehigh Medical Center, which help to facilitate the donation process.
“Lehigh Regional is part of a National HRSA’s Workplace Partnership for Life campaign that encourages hospitals to work with the local donor recovery organizations. We want to congratulate them for receiving the platinum award which the highest award a hospital can receive. In the last two years Lehigh Regional Medical Center had three organ donors, which resulted in seven organs transplanted,” Moore said.
Currently in the United States there are 110,000 people waiting for a life-saving transplant; 5,4000 of those individuals live in Florida.
One donor has the potential to save 8 lives through organ donation and enhance up to 75 lives through tissue donation. People can register their decision to become a life-saving organ and tissue donor at www.DonateLifeFlorida.org.
