VFW: Anticipating April’s acceleration

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Apr 28, 2021

While there’s still some time left in the month, a lot of activity is still going on. April 23 was burgers and to help one enjoy the meal, Veronica will be doing Karaokee and entertainment. Today, April 28 is when Kasey will do her famous stuffed peppers and James Prather is heading the entertainment list. The meals will start at 5 p.m. and end at 7.

We can say goodbye to April at the VFW by enjoying an Auxiliary steak dinner with all the fixings on the last Friday of the month, which happens to be the 30th. Dinner is from 5 p.m. til 7 p.m. and is only $12 per plate. As always, there will be entertainment and the public is welcome to join us for a good evening.

The first week of May there will be no lunches due to the ceiling in the kitchen needing repairs and replacement. We wouldn’t want the plaster getting into the soup or the workers scarfing down pieces of bacon when the cook wasn’t looking, but lunches will pick up again the 10th of the month.

There will be lots of other things to look forward to for the month of May, beginning with the Auxiliary Taco Night to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and you don’t even have to wear your sombreros unless you should choose to do so. We have a decent sized dance floor, so if you want to dance, I believe you’d find many people willing to join!

As everyone knows, May is the month for the Kentucky Derby and there will be a party to celebrate and it will be worth it to see the ladies in their millinery finery which they only wear for Derby parties. The date will be announced and there will be a Derby cake raffle to help the festivities along. The tickets for the cake raffle are $1 each or 6 for $5.

Plans are being made to have a roof raising party, along with a rib cook off and then the opportunity to devour these same ribs! Raffles, contests and an auction are all in the works for this exciting event and more information on the date and time will be forthcoming. While the guests aren’t expected to actually get on a ladder and help with the hard work of replacing the roof, their purchasing the raffle tickets or items to be auctioned off will be the means of getting this vital work accomplished.

As further events come nearer, we will keep you updated. Remember, you don’t have to be a member to participate and if you do come in, you just might find yourself wanting to come back time after time. We’ll be glad to welcome you!
