An upstairs restaurant, which went through a complete renovation, is open for the public to enjoy at Majestic Golf Club  in Lehigh Acres.

Jim and Julie Osburn opened Double Eagle Restaurant & Bar and took it over in November 2019.

“I’ve been here for a little over seven years now. I am the golf course superintendent for Majestic. We have been talking about it for a while, that it needs to be open to the public,” Jim said, adding that after talking with ownership, they were given the “have a go at it.”

The restaurant and bar had a tremendous amount of renovations done before opening its doors, such as new carpeting, paint, lighting, bar and entertainment stage, as well as a renovated kitchen with its own pizza oven.

“We cleaned the place up and made a pretty big splash. It’s an upstairs restaurant in the clubhouse. It’s basically been closed to the public for 15 years,” he said, adding that the previous ownership rented out the room to a private club. “When people come in they absolutely love it.”

The first few months was going well for the restaurant and then COVID-19 hit and caused a rough summer. There are five employees, who of whom kept their jobs through the pandemic, as they only shut down for a few weeks in July to clean and do some additional renovations.

“We are having fun. It’s definitely a struggle. We are hanging in there. It’s like we just had a reopening and starting all over,” Jim said. “The support that we have had from the community has been so positive. They are pleasantly surprised when they walk through the doors.”

Double Eagle offers a full bar and restaurant with an American and Italian full menu. There are both dine-in or take out options available.

There are special drink prices. An early bird special from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. is also offered for those dinning in the restaurant every day.

One of the hit items on the menu is its homemade pizza, both crust and sauce. Jim said with pizza being his favorite food, when they started talking about opening the restaurant, he said they had to have a pizza oven.

“We make fresh homemade pizza and told it’s the best in Lehigh Acres,” Jim said. “Some die-hard pizza fans said ‘this is actually some of the best pizza I have ever had.'”

The menu has a list of specialty pizzas, as well a choice of toppings.

Other popular items are the grinders, which are a hot open-faced sandwich. Some of the options include an Italian grinder, Majestic grinder, buffalo chicken grinder and the Philly cheesesteak grinder.

There are also appetizers, salads, pasta and fish on the menu.

“We keep the kitchen going all night,” Jim said.

On May 5, Cinco De Mayo, there will be a limited menu offered to celebrate the holiday with tacos, salsa and chips, guacamole and chips, refried beans, cheese quesadilla, layered dip and chips, Mexican pizza, and wings as well as margaritas.

To offer something different, Jim said they wanted to also offer entertainment.

“We try to do something every night,” he said.

Every Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m., there is karaoke. Ladies night is hosted with Ross and Holly Brown on Thursday and a mix of entertainment on Friday and Saturday.

With a background in entertainment –artist management and booking for 10 years — Jim said he wanted to offer something a little bit different for the community.

One of the upcoming acts, Verceal Whitaker, former first lady of the Platters, will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 15. The event is open to the public.

The Double Eagle Restaurant & Bar has a capacity of 155 people, although they are currently set up for 75 people to keep it comfortable.

The space is also available for rentals, and has been used for such celebrations as a wedding, celebration of life and birthdays.

“People are starting to call back and inquire. They haven’t for the last year,” Jim said due to the pandemic. “That was the big part of the business plan.”

With the space being booked in advance, individuals can request any night of the week. Jim said advance notice gives them time to inform the public that the Double Eagle Restaurant & Bar would be closed for the night.

“We are open to that for sure,” he said.

Double Eagle Restaurant & Bar is at Majestic Golf Club, 350 Homestead Road S., Lehigh Acres.

It is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 11 p.m. and closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
