Edison and Ford Winter Estates to host plant sale June 19

By Staff | Jun 16, 2021

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers will hold a special plant sale that is open to the public on June 19 starting at 9 a.m. in the outdoors Garden Shoppe and surrounding areas.

Additional plant vendors will also be on site, including Betty Ann’s Bromeliads, Calusa Palms and Tropicals, Deep South Natives, Miami Mike’s Bromeliads, Palm Tree Gardens and SunLand Orchids.

Admission is free, but it does not include tours or admission to the museum, lab or riverside.

“With the rainy season around the corner, now is the time to buy plants for the garden,” Horticulture Director Debbie Hughes said. “Once the rains start, Mother Nature will take care of the watering.”

A limited number of garden carts will be available, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own.

Following the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, masks are recommended when social distancing is not possible. Protective shields have been installed and outdoor checkout is available.

The Garden Shoppe offers a selection of flowering and fruit trees, butterfly plants, herbs, succulents, orchids, rare exotics and Florida natives. Many of the flowering trees and shrubs in the botanical gardens are available for purchase, plus wind chimes, fountains, ceramic flower pots and garden art.

Edison Ford members receive a 10 percent discount on purchases at the Garden Shoppe; non-members can join that day and get the discount. Refreshments will also be available for purchase at the event.
