VFW Post 4174: VFW Auxiliary MALTA

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Sep 18, 2021

When I first heard the term MALTA in conjunction with the VFW Auxiliary, I was wondering if it was some kind of drink they had invented and was curious enough to want to try it. I soon learned, it is not a drink at all, but the initials for Membership Auxiliary Leadership Technology Access. Believe it or not, I still couldn’t figure out the purpose of this, so I turned to my trusty computer and looked it up.

MALTA is a program which has several excellent options that gives support to the qualified veterans, service members, their families and relatives of VFW and Auxiliary members. The Cancer Aid and Research funds members who are battling this disease, supports grants up to $550 — with two per lifetime per member. Members should be in good standing with at least one-year membership in MALTA.

The Health and Happiness portion which goes to the VFW National Home for Children will assist the qualified members in finding new beginnings with rent-free housing, childcare and more. There is also a Patriotic Art Scholarship Contest which is an exciting venture for up & coming artists in the 9-12 grades to participate in at the same time it is promoting patriotism among youth. Two- and three-dimensional works are accepted. It is a great scholarship opportunity with the deadline being March 31, 2022 for submission to the local VFW Auxiliary. April 15 is when the entries need to be received by Department (state) and May 5 entries must be turned in to National Headquarters.

Another special option is Continuing Education Scholarship Contest which awards $1,000 to assist students in realizing and reaching their career dreams. Members of the VFW and Auxiliary are able to make financial gifts in MALTA to help the ongoing projects reach the new goal of adding more scholarships.

To find out more about the Patriotic Art Contest, Continuing Education and Fund the Future, go on line at vfwauxiliary.org/resources. Participating in this worthy venture will help the Auxiliary succeed in the Soaring Above and Beyond programs the organization is sponsoring for this year.

Every member is encouraged to help the VFW by becoming an unstoppable force which supports veterans and service members. In this way, we are all fulfilling our mission and showing our thanks to all Veterans for their service.
