Lehigh Acres Fire Prevention Day, fall fest set for Veterans Park
The Lehigh Acres Fire Prevention Day and Fall Festival is set for Saturday at the Veterans Park Recreation Center.
The Oct. 30 event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be hosted by Lee County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District.
The fall season celebration falls in-line with Fire Prevention Month and is a free event for all ages.
“This year we have a lot involvement from the community. So far we have more than 35 booths made up of our community partners. The Lehigh Acres Fire District, Lehigh Acres Municipal District, Lehigh Regional Medical Center, Kiwanis and Rotary are a few of our local partners attending. We also have Lee County Domestic Animal Services and Solid Waste coming this year,” Rebecca Flora, Park and Recreation supervisor said. “This is a fun, family-oriented event that everyone can enjoy.”
Throughout the day there will be activities including extraction demonstrations; fire prevention, safety tips and education, and booths with information from local businesses and organizations.
“We will have demonstrations from our Martial Arts and Champion in Motions programs. Plus a Scarecrow contest with judging by participants of the Club Rec after-school program. The community will get the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow,” Flora said.
Children up to age 13 also can participate in trick-or-treating with a costume contest beginning at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners of four different age groups.
“Kids get to go trick-or-treating, win prizes and receive giveaways at each booth. All activities will be held outside under our basketball pavilion. Free hot dogs, popcorn, candy and snow cones will be given out as well,” Flora added.
Another free movie night
The next free movie night will be held Friday, Nov.19, at 6:30 p.m. The movie will be “Playing with Fire.”
The Veterans Park Recreation Center is at 55 Homestead Road South.
