VFW Post 4174: We’re lucky!
We, the people of this great country have lots to be thankful for and Thanksgiving should not be the only time we sit down and count our blessings. To be sure, there are many problems facing us as a nation, but there is always the chance the problems may be solved, things will begin to look up and hopefully, change for the better. We are also fortunate many of our people are so willing to band together to try and solve many of the problems themselves.
Some of the ways in which the gatherings can produce results is by being united in the efforts across the country. Many of our organizations were formed with the express purpose of helping certain citizens to have a better life and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was formed with the intention of helping those returning from war zones to readjust to civilian life. The VFW was also established to assist family members of those same veterans in their return to normalcy.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars is strictly a not for profit membership corporation that is chartered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Accordingly, the VFW Auxiliary has issued charters to Auxiliaries, County Councils, Districts and Departments. Because of these charters, the different organizations are bound to abide by and follow the bylaws, laws and usages of the VFW.
Unlike many other organizations, the VFW Auxiliary doesn’t own interests in any facilities or fundraising activities which are operated by a charted organization. Each VFW organization is a separate unincorporated association under the laws of the jurisdiction where it is located. The VFW Auxiliary doesn’t gain any profit from any other facilities or activities.
The Auxiliary, while assisting the community which it serves, does not lend money or extend credit to any chartered organization. The Auxiliary is not responsible for the debts or any other liability incurred by any chartered organizations. As an unincorporated association each Unit is responsible for its own debts or liabilities incurred, which means, all its efforts go strictly to the VFW Post to which it is attached.
We are very lucky to have such a hard working Post here in Lehigh Acres acting for the good of our community and its venerable Veterans. We welcome the Public to many of our activities and hope they will take advantage of being invited and included. They’ll be glad they did!
