The Lehigh Acres Community Council will be taking a look at the year ahead with plans to do more community outreach.

As part of that initiative, the council is planning to host a food truck rally on Feb. 5 from noon to 7 p.m. The event will coincide with a church yard sale to be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leeland Heights Blvd., E., Lehigh Acres.

According to Community Council President Chuck Edwards, this will be the first food truck rally held in Lehigh Acres.

“We plan to have at least 10 food trucks in attendance, ranging from barbecue to Latin cuisine. We have confirmed that Coasting Donuts is coming and we’ll have a coffee truck next to them, and a Neapolitan pizza truck, Cuban food and Mexican, and possibly a unique pudding food truck concept,” Edwards explained. ” We are holding this in conjunction with the church’s community yard sale, and hope with good support we can hold one at least six times a year.”

Edwards continued that this event will give residents a sample of the great cuisine found here locally.

“Residents get a chance to sample various foods without having to travel into town to a restaurant. Plus they get a chance to support local businesses,” Edwards said.

The Community Council also plans on having a booth onsite during the event where locals can learn about the grass-root organization and fill out their voter registration.

“We are trying to do more community service types of events within the community instead of just acting as a political body for the voices of the Lehigh people,” Edwards said.

The council held its annual elections in December of 2021. Edwards was re-elected to serve his fourth term as president and the other chamber board members retained their previous board positions.

The council is asking for members of the community to get involved through its membership drive this year.

“We are looking for new members who want to be involved in the community and welcome new ideas,” Edwards said.

The Lehigh Acres Community Council was scheduled hold its next monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 3. The meeting are open to the public and held behind the Lee County Sheriff’s Office located at 1301 Homestead Road, N,, Lehigh Acres.
