Fire District excited for another year of growth
The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District continues to rev up efforts to better serve the community with station’s 106 and 102 ready to serve the community in 2022.
“2022 will be a busy year for our Fire District! We are looking forward to opening Station 102 on Home-stead Road and Station 106 on Sunshine Boulevard at the beginning of the year. Our administration will also be moving to Homestead Road to be more accessible for residents,” dsif Katie Heck, public relations officer for the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District.
The Fire District has plans to begin construction on an additional station by 2023.
“We also anticipate breaking ground on our training facility this year, another step toward lowering the community’s ISO rating. In planning to continue providing exceptional fire and rescue services to the growing district, we will also be planning for the construction of a 7th station the following year,” Heck explained.
Things including old, dried up Christmas trees are notorious for causing fires in early January when people are disposing of their trees. Residents need to be careful to properly and safely dispose of trees, which can be ignited quickly.
“The district is also asking the community to be extra cautious throughout the holidays and beyond as we approach the 2022 dry season,” Heck said.
Lee County Solid Waste Provides the following tips for Christmas tree disposal:
– Be sure to remove the tree stand, lights, decoration and tinsel. Broken and burned out strands of lights go in the trash.
– Set green Christmas trees out with your yard waste.
– Trees will be ground for use as mulch or compost.

The LAFCRD also suggest residents follow these three easy preparation steps residents can take this holiday season while spending time with family:
1. Create a communication plan. Organize a list of who needs to call/text each loved one.
2. Create that 30-foot defensible space around your property! Just think – it’s even more space for all those Christmas inflatables.
3. Check your insurance! Make sure you have enough to protect all of your property – especially if you’ve purchased new things or renovated in the past year.
During the dry season, residents need be extra careful and follow recreational burning guidelines when burning yard waste created after clearing their property: Residential / Recreational Open Burning Requirements | Lehigh Acres Fire control & Rescue District, Florida
