VFW Post 4174: You ‘Wanna’ Go!

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Jan 7, 2022

In Lehigh Acres, on Homestead Road, we have a unique place called the VFW Post 4174. Now, while not “everybody knows your name,” each member of the Post, Riders and Auxiliary is prepared to welcome all of the public at any of our many and varied functions.

A new year is beginning and we have lots of activities planned already. The first item on the list is our meals. Lunches are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with specials every day. To help you get “over the hump,” every Wednesday, a particular dinner is served from 5-7 p.m. along with entertainment which will encourage you to get on the dance floor and “cut a rug.” Fridays and Saturday evenings also offer different meals each week along with some popular music from all ages. The best way to start your week is with Sunday breakfast where you can get your eggs as you like.

We don’t only have food to offer, there is a Monday evening “Show me the Money” Bingo game, a regular Bingo on Thursday nights and twice a month is the Hillbilly Bingo Saturday afternoons. For the times of the games, just call the Post at 239-369-5100.

But, even more important is the upcoming programs which will benefit the area’s veterans, their spouses and families. The Auxiliary is in charge of community outreach in which volunteers work for the benefit if our community or its institutions. There is a lot of support for school children in teaching them the advantages of being an American citizen, what the military stands for and what it has done for our country. Our Post is working in conjunction with other organizations in the Veterans Combat Trauma Support Group, now open in the Lehigh Acres Flea Market, continuing to offer any needed assistance to DAV members, fostering better adjustments to returning vets in their family lives, and our Riders are always doing motorcycle runs to raise funds for the many charities they support.

The VFW and its Auxiliary firmly believes Community Service is an act that encompasses any human at serving the common good in the interest of the community. It is also further defined as a service performed for the benefit of the public or its institution.

For your New Year’s resolution this year, why not make the VFW the place where “You Wanna Go” and let everybody learn your names! You’ll be glad you did!
