Southwest Florida Regional Hamfest set for this weekend

The Southwest Florida Regional Hamfest to take place this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21 and 22.

Hamfest is a trade show and exhibition event that is focused on AmateurRadio, electronics and other technology orientated to the hobby and is sponsored by the Fort Myers AmateurRadio Club. The event will take place at Florida SouthWestern State College, located at 8099 College Parkway, Building U, Fort Myers.

Hamfest offers the opportunity to learn more about amateur radio communications and related technologies. There will be vendors and others offering a range of new and used items for sale.

This event is also a meeting place for amateur radio operators from all over the area to discuss evolving technical aspects of the hobby, ask questions, discuss communication issues and meet fellow operators.

Licensed and unlicensed individuals are welcome and for those who wish to take an examination for their first license or to upgrade a current license, exams will be offered onsite on Saturday.

Tickets to the event are $10 at the door. Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult, and students 13 -18 are free with valid student ID. There will be a raffle and door prizes.
