The Fountain Crest Retirement Community has welcomed a new life enrichment director, who is very excited about her position.

“I can’t lie, I am super excited even several weeks in. I am overwhelmed by new things and different things and learning things,” Fountain Crest Retirement Community Life Enrichment Director Selena Geisler said. “This is my dream job. I am blessed to have found and landed my dream job.”

She said she began at Fountain Crest in early October as a third shift concierge.

“I fell in love with the residents, the atmosphere and other staff. I heard that Debbie was retiring. She was the life enrichment director here until a week and a half ago,” she said.

Fountain Crest Retirement Community Development Director Denise Talt said Geisler is chock full of new ideas and interesting activities to present to the residents.

“She is ecstatic about her new career and has a great deal of energy to keep our residents engaged,” she said.

After 12 years, Debbie Whiteaker retired as the life enrichment director at Fountain Crest Retirement Community on Jan. 7.

“Debbie was a dedicated team member and always put the residents first!  Her main priority was resident happiness and fulfilling their lives with fun, educational and spiritual activities,” Talt said.

Geisler said she has between 20 to 25 years of experience with activities in senior communities, as she has volunteered over the years in Maryland, Kentucky and Florida.

“I feel like there is always more for me to learn. Who better to learn from, that from folks with experience and knowledge?” she said. “I have learned mostly take it slow, everything is going to work out and tomorrow is just a day away.”

Now in her new role, she hopes to offer the residents a variety of actives, including some they have never done before.

“I am always open to suggestions. I like to give what they like and open doors to new horizons,” Geisler said. “Anything new and different and eye opening is awesome for any age, not just in the senior community, but every community.”

The calendar of activities is plentiful with such things as evening movies, quilting classes, yoga, walking, bowling and shopping trips.

“They really enjoy everything to be honest. That is a love that seniors have. They love doing new things, different things and doing the same things,” Geisler said.

Fountain Crest also offers cultural activities, such as chocolate tastings, entertainers, talking about exploring different religions and ways of writing and expressing oneself.

“We try to keep it busy because that is the foundation. The busier you stay, you don’t have time to feel bad,” she explained.

Fountain Crest offers 94 apartments with a choice of three different floor plans. Geisler said they are a large community within Lehigh that offers a “home” like atmosphere.

“Our community is definitely, it takes a village kind of feel,” she said. “It’s really a great place with a lot of team members who are all in and giving their all to the community. We all collectively work for the residents. It doesn’t feel like work when you have a place where you feel like home.”

Geisler said a lot of the activities they offer are open to the public.

“We like to get folks in and see what is going on,” she said, as at some point we all have family that may need to live at a place like Fountain Crest. “This a great place to be”
