Second defendant sentenced to life in Lehigh homicide

A Lehigh Acres man has been sentenced to life in prison in the death of a man shot multiple times following a car chase.
Victor Colon Jr., was adjudicated guilty and sentenced today as a Prison Releasee Reoffender for second degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
He was found guilty on Jan. 21 following a trial in Lee County.
The crime involved a shooting in Lehigh Acres in 2020. Colon chased down another car in rush hour traffic. When the cars came to a stop, his co-defendant, Ricky Gaspar Ruiz, got out of the vehicle and shot the victim 16 times.
The two then fled. They were captured in Hialeah by the U.S. Marshals.
Ruiz was sentenced to life in prison on Feb. 1.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation.
State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller prosecuted the cases.
