Summer camp registration open for Veterans Park
With the school year winding down and summer on the horizon, registration began Monday, Feb. 28, for summer camp at Veterans Park.
Summer Camp Director Nancy Zukaitis said the seven weeks of summer camp will be held from June 13, through July 29, Monday through Friday. Camp begins at 7:30 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m.
“They can come according to their schedule,” she said of the hours they prefer.
The cost is $75 per week, per child, 6 years old to 13 years old, and is open to 120 traditional campers and 40 middle school campers each week.
Although there is no cut off for registration, once the week fills, it is full, she said.
In order to register, families have to have a membership with Veterans Park, which is $25 for a family of three or more, or $10 for a single membership. It is a lifetime membership and is good for all Lee County facilities.
“You have to come here to do the membership because it does require a signature. Once they get that done they can sign up for whatever they want, or do it online through the Lee County Parks and Recreation website,” Zukaitis said of www.leeparks.org.
The camp, Zukaitis said, offers a lunch program through the Department of Agriculture and the schools.
“They provide lunches for all the campers if they so wish to partake in that and an afternoon snack,” she said.
This year’s theme, “Blast to the Past,” will feature different eras with special field trips and guest speakers included. The camp will include arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, time at the water splash pad and large and small playground.
“We have a lot of stuff going on. There is laser tag in the building. It’s a blast,” she said. “We are looking forward to it. We have counselors that enjoy working with the kids.”
Veterans Park is located at 55 Homestead Road, S. For additional information about the program, call 239-369-1521.
