The, to celebrate the opening of its new Station 102 on Homestead Road. The new station is located at 44 Homestead Roadd, S., just down the road from the “original” Station 102.

A formal ceremony to celebrate the opening will begin at 10:15 a.m., featuring a welcome from Chief Robert DiLallo and a hose uncoupling ceremony to officially open the new faility. Immediately following the ceremony, members of the community will be invited to tour the station. The apparatus housed in the station will also be on display.

According to Katie Heck, public relations officer at Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, the addition of the Station 102 allows the fire district to have greater access to the surrounding community.

“The new Station 102 is conveniently located right across from Veterans Park and is accessible to the public; a change from the old station down the road (the firefighters were housed in a trailer behind the building that was damaged in Hurricane Irma). Now, families have access to safety flyers and information in the front lobby and are always welcome to stop in and visit the firefighters,” Heck said.

Aside from the addition of a new station, the district’s administrative and logistics staff have consolidated into the “original” station, located down Homestead Road.

“The district’s administrative and logistics staff have consolidated into the original station, located at 11 Homestead Rd S. The property at 44 Homestead Road (where the new Station 102 is) has ample room for the new fire station and a training facility,” Heck explained. “In long-term planning, there is also room to accommodate a future administrative building that could house fire and law enforcement personnel, and serve as the East Lee County Emergency Operations building when needed. This future administrative building would be a valuable resource for the community, providing a central location to reach their public safety providers.”

The opening of new stations 102 and 106 fall in line with the LAFCRD’s overall plans to expand and better serve the community and the quality of emergency services delivered to its citizens.

“It’s no secret that Lehigh Acres is rapidly growing. We are committed to responsibly planning our growth as well, in order to continue providing superior and reliable services. The new construction of Station 106 and the current planning for Station 107 is a direct reflection of that plan to determine locations for future stations that best serve our community’s needs,” Heck said.
