Fight for women’s rights is about equal rights, not political favoritism

By Staff | Apr 6, 2022

To the editor:

When I was a part of the March for Women’s Rights in the ’60s, we were not marching for racial women’s rights or religious women’s rights or political women’s rights, we were demonstrating for women to have equal rights. The word “protest” at that time had a totally different connotation than it does today.

In a relatively short span of approximately 50 years, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction. Equal rights are now sometimes measured by the color of your skin and your political affiliation. No longer are you measured by your qualifications and intellect but by your outward appearance. It is incomprehensible that a leader of this nation would choose a running mate and member of the Supreme Court based on gender and race and not on the best PERSON to do the best job for our country. This has filtered over to the business community as well.

I applaud that there is more diversification in the business and political world but not to the detriment of having the most qualified individual in the position.
