‘Racial gerrymandering’ claim fools no one
To the editor:
Gov. Ron DeSantis veto demand on Florida’s political districts is for half of Floridian Congressional districts historically represented by Blacks to be subsumed into white constituencies. Florida now has four Black representatives among our 27-member delegation to Congress. 16.9% of the state’s population is Black. Check my math, but that is a racial underrepresentation of Florida’s Black citizens in our delegation.
DeSantis’ veto of the legislature’s census-driven map he explains as undoing “racial gerrymandering.” I guess DeSantis believes the Trump-era race hatred by a Republican politician has become so routine that he can say that sort of thing out loud.
