VFW Post 4174: Is April a fool’s month?

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Apr 13, 2022

If April is really a fool’s month, the VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres hasn’t heard the word! This month is so full of events and activities it’s hard to know where to begin.

I guess the fact we now have a PTSD weekly walk at 8:30 a.m. on Mondays, where not only the Combat Trauma Support Group members take part, non members of the group, family and volunteer supporters are also encouraged to join in on this worthy venture, is also beginning to become known in the area. Blood pressures will be taken before the walk actually begins and to enter, just show up at the Post located 25 Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres before 8:30 a.m. I am asking the Commander if my walking around in the kitchen as I’m preparing lunch counts!

In addition to the walks, there is a deep sea fishing trip on the calendar. Also a Combat Trauma Sponsors dinner on the 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m. and a catfish dinner for the Combat Trauma Group on the 30th, from 5 to 7 p.m. are some highlights during the month of April. April 20 is the Pelican Putt Golf, another different happening. Call 239-368-5100 for more information on any of these affairs.

But, those aren’t the only activities of interest. Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m. is an auction and the proceeds from this are going to be going towards a Smoking Shack the Post is planning on building. We have heard from many of our neighbors they would join in more if the area had less smoke, so in the spirit of unity, the Post is getting ready to comply and the Smoking Shack seems to be the way to satisfy everyone. There is an abundance of items to bid on. And as always, the public is welcome, so mark your calendars!

The Riders are planning another Poker Run, the Auxiliary is having its nominations and elections for officers, lunches are going strong Monday through Friday and we have our normal Bingo nights on Thursdays, the Show Me the Money games on Monday evenings, dinners on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. the Friday night dinners with entertainment as well as Saturday with even more entertainment. Sunday mornings see a good sized crowd enjoying a plentiful breakfast.

So, we can safely say April is not a fool’s month here at our local VFW and we’re looking forward to inviting everyone to join us. You will be glad you did!
