Lehigh Acres Senior Center: Travel Desk and Camera Club
The Lehigh Acres Senior Center opened its doors at this location in 1985 and in October of 2018 Lee County Parks and Recreation took over the facility and it is once again county owned and operated. Mary Vance (supervisor) and Eugene Fernandez (maintenance) maintain the facility and keep everything running smoothly. They are considered by the members to be more than just county employees. At the Senior Center it’s not only about participating in events and our many classes that we offer, but rather about companionship, getting your daily exercise, lots of love and laughter along with a forever family. We hope this is the place for you. The Senior Center has a Travel Desk that is run by Josephine Scotton, a lifetime member at the young age of 90. Josephine and the Travel Desk volunteers are available to the public 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the travel desk, just inside the main entrance. The Senior Center also has a Camera Club class and meets up on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m in room 108. The Camera Club has the key objective to bring Senior Center members together who have common interests in photography. The meetings consist of a number of topics such as educational, trip planning, sharing ideas, etc. We welcome any member who has an interest in the art of photography no matter what camera you have. Whether it’s a cell phone camera or a professional level camera or anything in between, all are welcome. The Camera Club is led by John Schoenhoff and Chris Majewski and we encourage you to join them in a meeting to see what it’s all about.
If interested in becoming a member of the Lehigh Acres Senior Center, please stop by for a guided tour of the facility or call Mary Vance at 239-369-5355. You must be at least 50 years of age to become a member. Annual membership is only $30. The Senior Center is located at 219 Plaza Drive, Lehigh Acres.
Research shows that older adults who participate in senior center activities have higher levels of health, social interaction and life satisfaction than their peers.
