Candidate competency is what matters

By Staff | Aug 24, 2022

To the editor:

A Party must have America in the forefront of their purpose, to solve problems; improve the economy, protect its citizens and provide opportunity.

In order to do that they must nominate and select qualified candidates that will fulfill those functions if and when they attain the office.

Today we have a president who is in no way qualified. He has had no CEO experience; no major accomplishments and now at his age not sufficient energy for such a consuming job. As everyone knows, America has major problems today, many items of which have Joe Biden’s fingerprints.

Why did Biden become their candidate? It was repeated many times, they felt he was the only one who could beat Trump. I don’t remember any emphasis on his qualifications. Many people just accepted the idea that he was a nice old man that should bring people together and that he was not an ideologue. That was the campaign message after the nomination, too. No president has ever been so inactive on the campaign trail so his handlers apparently thought that his image would best be kept as this idea of nice old man, knowing perhaps that if he was exposed on the campaign trail for what he was, it would kill his chances.

The real Joe Biden turned out to be an ideologue and a special interest specialist with obvious age issues. As an example he went overboard for the environmentalists, leaving us in an energy bind and accelerating an inflation spiral. His trillions of dollars spent were also very much aimed at special interest groups and those trillions fueled (a pun) the inflation as well.

Then he appointed people on his staff and his secretaries that would make him a hero with special interest groups. Women and color seemed to be at the top of his list. His selections appear to be focused on special interest rather than competency. His VP, for example, has demonstrated such questionable potential that she has a lower polling rate than Biden’s record low.

It is hard to believe that these are all coincidences. None of those actions have benefited Americans in their daily lives. Instead of focusing on special interest groups, he should focus on Americans. Releasing the fuel manufacturing in America instead of pleading with the Shah of Saudi Arabia would be a good start. The fuel shortages have had a profound negative affect on America increasing the cost of everything.

It should not have to be said but political parties should be responsible for nominating competent candidates well matched to their jobs. Candidates should be chosen for their competency not just to satisfy their favorite voting groups.
