Man found guilty in Lehigh road rage case
Fort Myers – Yusuf-Ali Gooding was found guilty in a deadly road rage incident that happened in Lehigh Acres. Gooding was found guilty of manslaughter with a firearm, battery, discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and theft.
On June 28, 2021, Gooding shot two men, who had been riding on ATVs near Sunrise Boulevard and Genoa Avenue South. The defendant fired a total of 21 rounds at both men.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene where one victim had already died. The surviving victim was able to describe the car involved in the incident. The defendant was later identified and arrested.
The jury returned the guilty verdict following a five-day trial in Lee County.
Assistant State Attorney John Dommerich and Assistant State Attorney Steven Vitale prosecuted the case. Sentencing has been scheduled for Nov. 15.
