Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Book Discussion: “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides

3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3

A therapist becomes dangerously obsessed with uncovering the truth about what prompted his client, an artist who refuses to speak, to murder her husband in a way that triggers mass public speculation.

Chess Anyone?

2 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours.

Download Drop-In

11 a.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 4, 18

Receive personalized help downloading e-books, movies, music and more from Overdrive and Hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Bring your fully charged digital device for this hands-on help session. Note: Please bring any passwords you may need for downloading apps. Kindle users will also need an Amazon account and their password for accessing it.

East County Craft Club: Mini Pumpkins

2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8

Paint and embellish your own mini faux pumpkin for a unique fall decoration. This program is intended for ages 18 and up. Registration is required.

Knit and Stitch

5 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 12, 26

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Books and Beyond: Explore the East County Library

2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22

Children’s Programs

STEAM Storytime

1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1

Children ages 5-11 are invited to join us for a STEAM Storytime that will feature a story and an activity based on the aspects of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This is a great opportunity for parents and kids to learn and get creative together.

Community Helper Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6

For children through age 5. Firefighters with the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District will read a few of their favorite adventure stories during this special storytime event. Children will be able to meet a firefighter in full bunker gear and explore the fire engine. The firefighters will also have a special gift for each child in attendance.

Kids Read Down Fines

4-5 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27

1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Costume Bubble Dance Party

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12

Join us for a special morning of dancing and bubble blowing as we listen to our favorite tunes. Dressing up in costume is encouraged.

Family Movie Matinee

2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15

Children ages 6-11 and their caregivers are invited to a family-friendly movie matinee. You bring the snacks and we will provide the movie. Call the library for the movie title. The movie shown will be rated G or PG.

Toddler Tales

10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 18, 25

For ages 18-36 months and caregivers. Toddlers and caregivers move and groove during this interactive storytime.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 19, 26

For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Preschool Storyime

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Oct. 20, 27

For ages 3-5. Children attend this program independently while parents and caregivers wait nearby.

Teen Programs

Library Teen Talk

2 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25

High school teens are invited to the library for a weekly discussion about current events, everyday life, library resources and more. Teens will be encouraged to post an answer to a weekly question while socializing and making new friends.

Kids Read Down Fines

4-5 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27

1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15

High School Game Day

2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7

Play board games, video games, card games and more at the library. High school teens are invited to join us for fun, games and socializing with friends after school.

Middle School Movie Day

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18

Middle school teens are invited to sit back and enjoy a movie. Bring your friends and some snacks. Please call the East County Regional Library for the movie title before the event. Movie ratings range from G to PG-13.

High School Movie Day

2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19

High school teens are invited to sit back and enjoy a movie. Bring your friends and some snacks. Please call the East County Regional Library for the movie title before the event. Movie ratings range from G to PG-13.

Zombie Escape Room

Noon-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26

Teens ages 12-18 form groups of 6-8 players and attempt to stop a zombie invasion. Using just the materials in the room, determine and develop a cure in 20 minutes or less. Teams should plan to be present throughout the event and will enter the escape room at the designated time during the event. Registration is required.
