VFW: We did it!

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Nov 10, 2022

All the VFW Posts in the 13th District are pleased as punch, and our own Post 4174 located at 25 S. Homestead Road is no exception. Not only is our District Commander a longtime member of our “house,” he has been instrumental in helping our entire district accomplish all of our community requirements!

In honor of this very impressive deed, an All American Celebration in being put on at our Post for the entire district. Everyone in the district is invited to participate. There will be a small, but important ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. Dinner will be at 5 p.m. and the entertainment, from the live band known as Desperado, will begin at 7 p.m. The date for this auspicious occasion is Saturday, Nov. 19.

Special food is being catered by the Olive Garden and there will be door prizes to add to the fun. This is a real honor for the area, as all the posts have worked together to assist one another in fulfilling the needs of the communities in which they reside. Many people think of the VFW only as a canteen and mini restaurant. While that is partially true, membership will prove the organization is so much more.

Veterans who have had “boots on the ground” realize how important it is to continue helping those who have returned to civilian life. The adjustment isn’t just for the Veteran though, it compasses the entire family and community. Children are extremely important to our organization as they are the future leaders of tomorrow, and we wish to assist them in learning about and continuing onward with the principles of our nation.

We also go a step further in the pursuit of a better life for those returning from the horrors of war, such as supporting Wounded Veterans causes, Paws for Honor, the DAV, the newly established Veterans Combat Trauma Support Group, those fighting illnesses from toxic wastes, Agent Orange, and many other Airborne Hazards.

Yes, we did it and are inviting you to join us. You’ll be glad you did!
