VFW Post 4174: Holiday Happenings!

These past few months have been super busy for everyone in Florida, not just because of the hurricanes, but with the extra activities in collecting and distributing all manner of things. Not only have all the Posts been collecting staples for those severely damaged areas, they have been collecting candies, for the Halloween Trunk or Treats, turkeys and all the fixings for some needy families, Toys for Tots in conjunction with the Marines, and Xmas food baskets for other less fortunate families in their respective communities.

But, not all the activities involved charitable contributions. There have been many Xmas parties. In our own Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, not only was there a Secret Santa Exchange, an awesome pot luck array, dancing and singing, we also had a very challenging snowball fight! Unlike the fights up north though, our snowballs are made of yarn and don’t smart when one is hit. Also, they don’t melt, causing a mess and they aren’t the least bit cold. They are also easy to find so the clean up doesn’t take forever and they are stored away without melting for use next year! We were amazed at the accuracy of some of our members in pelting their peers!

Even with all the holiday events, our Post is still having our normal Bingo nights, the usual Hillbilly bingo, the meals, Karaoke nights and the monthly meetings. Our volunteers are always on the job to keep things moving along smoothly and we couldn’t function as well as we do without them. And our officers are continually trying to work on anything which could enhance our membership, improve the building and continue to foster excellent relations within the community we serve.

Here at the VFW, Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, we would like to wish everyone the safest, happiest, and healthiest of the holiday season and our sincerest hopes that the forthcoming year is a good one for everyone. We invite you to stop in and visit. You’ll be glad you did!
