United Way to take applications from nonprofit organizations for emergency food, shelter funding

By Staff | Feb 13, 2023

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades has announced that it will accept applications from nonprofit organizations for funds to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs in Lee and Hendry counties through March 3 at 5 p.m.

Lee and Hendry counties have been awarded federal funds totaling $238,581 for Phase 40. This funding is made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

The Local Board is now accepting applications. The board will determine how the funds awarded to Lee and Hendry counties will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local human service agencies. United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades provides the coordination and administrative support for this program within our community.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI); have a functional accounting system in place; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and, if a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Interested agencies and organizations meeting these qualifications may contact Angela Fischler of United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades at angelaf@unitedwaylee.org for more information.

The deadline for applications to be submitted is March 3 at 5 p.m.

In addition to raising funds for human service organizations in our community, United Way promotes partnerships and collaborations among agencies and initiatives, helping them to work together focusing on issues and solutions that continue to improve lives.
