Community leaders volunteer at Habitat for Humanity home in Lehigh

By Staff | Apr 17, 2023

Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties welcomed community leaders on a Good Friday Build, wielding brushes and rollers, as they volunteered on a newly constructed home in Lehigh.

Working into the early afternoon, former Florida State Senator and Hope Healthcare executive vice president Lizbeth Benacquisto and Stilwell Enterprises and Restaurant Group CEO Sandra Stilwell Youngquist volunteered with their Women Build fundraising team to give fresh coats of paint to the interior and exterior walls. As part of Habitat’s Women Build campaign, the home will go toward building a future for a single mom and her three children once completed.

Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties has participated in Women Build since 2011, partnering with 27 female-headed households to build strength and stability for more than 68 children through local fundraising and volunteer construction efforts. Women Build is about empowering women to learn advocacy, fundraising, and construction skills on an inclusive job site while empowering other women and their children through affordable homeownership. Since 1982, nearly 1,800 families have purchased Habitat homes in Lee and Hendry Counties.
