VFW: A new year!

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Jun 21, 2023

It is interesting that the Hallmark TV channel has a host of movies coming up celebrating Christmas in July. Well, here at the VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, we are celebrating a New Year, but our New Year won’t be sending up fireworks in a blazing array of colors and sounds. Nor will we be serving champagne while wearing fabulous party hats. Instead, it will mark the beginning of the Installation of officers for the forthcoming year.

What is so exciting about the forthcoming times is the fact the VFW has made great strides in membership. Currently the organization was on track to hit 102% in membership. One of the reasons the VFW is doing so well in gaining new people is the fact it has a very strong Auxiliary, and with a strong Auxiliary, any post will find itself doing well.

We are also seeing an increase of participants in the Riders and the DAV, as well as more people joining in on the Veterans Combat Trauma Support Group. Many veterans are learning just how much assistance a VFW post can provide as they make the transition from a military life to a civilian one.

For 75 years, the VFW members have taken the organization’s legislative priority goals straight to those who are responsible for the many changes to all laws impacting veterans. The VFW has an annual Legislative Conference whereby designated members head to the office of the lawmakers of their respective states. Priority goals are discussed and questions answered. VFW’s message as a veteran’s advocate is then heard, loud and clear.

While there has been much success over the years, much work is still needed to be accomplished. To be a part of the future endeavors of our VFW Post, just stop in at 25 S. Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres on any given day. Someone is certain to be available to answer your questions and help you become a member. If you do stop in, you’ll be glad you did!
