Amanecer Elementary takes another step to opening

School officially opens to students Aug. 10

By Staff | Jul 25, 2023

Principal Holly Mathews, superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier and the Lee County School Board will officially open the new Amanecer Elementary School with an invitation-only ribbon cutting on July 28.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the district’s newest elementary school where we will focus on supporting not only our students, but our families, and community through our whole child approach,” said Mathews. “Amanecer will be a blessing to the district by providing a loving, structured, goal-oriented environment where children will thrive.”

Construction of Amanecer Elementary started in March 2022. The half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2018 is supporting the $56,568,109 total project cost. Amanecer adds 972 student stations for elementary students in Lehigh Acres.

When the school opens Aug. 10, Amanecer Elementary will be the School District’s first Cambridge Primary Center. As a Cambridge Primary Center, the school will provide Cambridge curriculum to help students develop deep subject knowledge, conceptual understanding and higher order thinking skills. Every student will be involved and teachers will incorporate the same skills into their everyday lessons.

The new campus is at 641 Sunrise Blvd. in Lehigh Acres.
